Gena Showalter did it again. After falling in love with The White Rabbit Chronicles, I have looked forward to reading more of Gena Showalter's Young Adult books. I chose to Read her latest series Everlife. Firstlife, the first book of this series is an imaginative take on heaven and the afterlife. The main character Tenely Lockwood has spent months locked away at Pryne asylum where she was tortured for her everlife. She has an immense decision to make that not only effects this life but also the next. The choice she makes will not only effect many of her loved ones but also the outcome of a never-ending war between the two realms. Trokia and Myriad both eager to recruit Ten send laborers to draw her to their side. As they await her decision they protect her from her imminent death. Ten is overcome by pressure as she watches many people suffer for her right to choose.
Tens journey into the Everlife is thrilling and imaginative. The book really has you thinking about your own choices in life and it helps you connect with many characters. Tenly's perspective is a genuine one that is rare in today's world which makes you feel a sense of hope and keeps you invested in her choice. I honestly couldn't put the book down. This novel keeps you turning pages and always wondering what will happen to our heroine. The amount of strength shown by Miss Lockwood is absolutely inspiring. You can't find a more engaging book. I would highly recommend reading Firstlife. A great start to yet another ingenious series by Gena Showalter.
Keep an eye out for my review of Lifeblood, book 2 of the Everlife series.
